When I sat down to write this ‘about’ page I had this strange uncomfortable feeling that reminded me of taking part in a ‘get to know you’ session; the one every new job or new class at school makes you suffer through where you have to say one funny or interesting thing about yourself, or if your teacher or boss is really masochistic they’ll make you say three. I always liked the two truths and a lie game because I’d just fabricate random stuff about myself for my own amusement. Give nothing away and learn that the new girl next to me used to collect snails as a child (sorry K). But now that we’re a few sentences in, I’ve got a cup of tea on the go, and I’ve begun over-sharing I may as well lose the bat and the bush and get on with it!
As you may have guessed (no prizes if you did) I’m Lucy and I like to write stuff. I am a classic over thinker and tend to react very dramatically and emotionally to things so when my head gets busy and I’m sick of the red stained cheeks, and crow’s feet I grab a pen and I’ve been doing that ever since I could hold one. My earliest achievement was winning a blue peter badge when I was nine for my poem about apples… I prefer them fermented and bottled these days.
I grew up in a small village in Somerset just ten minutes outside of Glastonbury. Between the red water from the well, the view from Glastonbury Tor, and the wonderfully unusual people you meet it’s still one of my favourite places in the whole world. I’m now based in the city of Cardiff, where I studied for university, fell in love, made friends and now live permanently, mostly sat at my desk looking out the window pictured on the home page. If you ever happen to visit Cardiff, I’ll be at an open mic for music or poetry, eating, drinking coffee, walking round the beautiful lakes and parks and nearby mountains here, or drinking. I’m easy to spot, I’m the loud one with blue hair!
